Looks like your nearing completion.
I don't see anything yet to do.
Congtrats...Now you are going to have to find another one to start on..(or not).

I just came up with a 5ft oak disk 8" thick, with the center eaten out and the perimeter looking like a cyprus round. Very jagged. It has a lot of burl like features in the graining. Trying to do a speed dry on it, which will result in a bit of cracking, but there is some already in it. I'll epoxy those areas.
Using it for a 4" thick table slab with a glass top when done.

This wood stuff is addictive and a sickness. But I love it. Wife thinks I've lost my mind.

That sounds like a real interesting piece of wood. I hope it turns out as nice as the vision you have for it.

There's about 15 square feet left for me to finish, not bad considering there's approximately 350 sq. ft. total. About 90% of the work on that 15 sq. ft. is done. It just needs to be sanded more and oiled. Then I'll probably spend a few more months fine tuning areas that I'm not totally happy with.

I'd like to have it indoors, out of the dampness of the Vancouver Island winters before next winter.

I have lots of interesting, much smaller pieces to work on when this one is finished. I won't be taking on another project the size of this one again.

Yup.
I was sorta kidding about that idea if finding another one.
15 sq ft isn't much compared to what you have done so far.
Your There!!!
Awaiting to see where it ends up.

Yeah I deal in mostly burl and bug eaten pieces that others would use for firewood. They have a character not seen in straight boards. The graining gets twisted and tries to protect itself. I have 10 hollowed out maples rounds as big as 42" across and 30" tall for table blanks with the bug chew left in place but cleaned down and heavily clearcoated.

Fun stuff and unique.

Not to the scale you do, but room worthy.

Ha, that's funny that you say most people would use as firewood, it's so true. I pick up a lot of pieces out of burn piles where the land has been recently cleared. Maple roots can be really interesting as well.

Keep in touch Dan, I'd like to see some of your pieces when you get them finished.
